Ben used to eat nothing but junk. If it wasn’t full of starch and carbs, he wouldn’t touch it. He lived on waffles, pizza, and peanut butter & Nutella sandwiches. But not anymore.
As of a few weeks ago, Ben eats as healthy as I do, if not better. Yes, I’m talking about my son Ben. Yes: the one who ate nothing but crap. He has been a self-proclaimed vegetarian for years now, but he never ate other important foods needed for essential vitamins and to help boost his immune system, like most vegetables and fruits. But that has suddenly changed: Ben has started trying new foods and has turned his eating habits around completely. Don’t believe it? Neither would I, had I not seen it myself. Here’s a sampling of the different foods he has tried and liked over the past few weeks:
- multi-gran and whole wheat breads
- zucchini bread
- veggie “garden” burgers
- orange juice
- pizza bread with sun-dried tomatoes
- sugar-fried apples
- bread with garlic & rosemary dipping sauce
- baby corn
- chips with salsa and “con queso” cheese
- sour cream
- bean burritos
It’s not all “health” food, but just getting Ben to try any new foods had been impossible, let alone something that might be good for him. It’s an amazing turn-around, and we couldn’t be happier. Now, if we could just figure out why Zach has been eating less than Ben has lately, if you can imagine that!Sophie is doing well too: she’s up to about 6 ounces of formula every few hours, which has helped her in sleeping through most of the night, usually until 4 or 5 A.M.
